Gibbs Sr. His journey began in Wadmalaw, South Carolina, where he was born in 1938. Young Henry, known as Allen, developed a strong connection to the church early in life. He followed in his father’s footsteps, often taking minutes during Sunday School and mediating family disputes with his gift of gab. Seeking a better life for his growing family, Allen moved to Philadelphia in 1960. It was in Philadelphia that Allen’s spiritual life truly blossomed. He was invited to sing at a service, and the experience was so profound that he was baptized the same day. This marked a turning point. Allen became a devoted servant of God, taking on various roles within the church. From church secretary to Sunday School teacher, he embraced every opportunity to serve. His dedication led him to become a minister, then an elder, and finally, a mentor to younger members of the ministry. God then called upon Elder Gibbs Sr. to embark on a new path. He founded the Greater Bible Way Temple in 1988. Tragedy struck with the passing of his wife that same year. Yet, his faith remained unshaken. Heeding God’s call to “Go Catch Man,” he held the first service of the Greater Bible Way Temple in 1991. The church flourished, and Elder Gibbs Sr. eventually became Bishop Gibbs Sr., leading his congregation from a storefront church to the impressive temple that stands today. Bishop Gibbs Sr.’s unwavering faith and commitment to praise, even in the face of adversity, are woven into the very fabric of the Greater Righteous Temple Church. His motto, “All God Wants…Is Praise!” resonates within these walls, a testament to a life dedicated to serving God and his community.
