“Truly excited” is what Arlene Andrews Andrus said about Greater New Unity Baptist Church. She was speaking about Minister Eric Andrus’s ordination. This Greater New Unity Baptist Church event had not occurred in over 25 years. The last time was when the late Pastor Randy Allison Jr. was ordained.
Greater New Unity Baptist Church is located at 9719 S. Avalon Blvd in Los Angeles. The church plans special services. Annual Women’s Day will be held. It takes place during the 10:45 a.m. worship service on October 20. Mother Dorothy Monroe is the program chair. The theme is “Christian Women Walking By Faith.” It is based on 2 Corinthians 5:7. Minister Redelia Fowler of Life Ministries Church in Fullerton will be the guest preacher.
An Ordination Service for Minister Eric Andrus will occur on Saturday, October 26, at 10 a.m. This event will be at Greater New Unity Baptist Church. The Providence District Baptist Association of Los Angeles sponsors the ordination. Rev. William Dandridge is the moderator. He is also the pastor of Holy Light Baptist Church. Dandridge will be the officiating minister. Rev. Dr. J.W. Brown is the pastor of Welcome Baptist Church. He will be the chief catechizer.
Pastor Randy Allison Jr. served Greater New Unity Baptist Church faithfully for 17 years. God called him home on April 21, 2024. Minister Andrus was baptized by Pastor Allison. He has served on the ministerial staff for the last four years.
Parishioners describe Minister Andrus as a humble young man. Since uniting with Greater New Unity Baptist Church he has served in several roles. He is an associate minister. Also he serves as a Sunday School teacher and Bible School teacher. He is a member of the Bereavement Committee and King’s Men. Plus he is a co-sponsor and spiritual advisor of Teens for Christ.
Mrs. Andrus says Minister Andrus loves the Word of God. He represents Christ in his daily life. Andrus serves as a group facilitator for God’s Property Sober Living Foundation. This foundation assists ministers challenged by addiction, homelessness, and other issues.
Praying, studying, and sharing the Word of God brings him joy. Gathering with the saints at the House of God thrills him.
Homegoing services for Rev. Randy Allison, Jr. occurred after he passed away suddenly on April 21. He was 45 years old. Rev. Allison’s body lay in state on Friday, May 17, at Greater New Unity. A memorial musical was held at 6 p.m. A celebration of life took place on Saturday, May 18, at Citizens of Zion Baptist Church in Compton.
Rev. Allison was born in Los Angeles on Dec. 21, 1978. He graduated from Washington High School and Grambling State University. He earned a Master’s degree in Pastoral Studies from Azusa Pacific.
Pastor Allison was called to the ministry. He preached his first sermon at age 16. In 1998, he was licensed to preach. He devoted 30 years to spreading the Gospel. Rev. Allison was an accomplished musician. He shared his many talents with Greater New Unity Baptist Church. For 17 years, he served as its spiritual leader.
