Amidst the vibrant tapestry of Houston, Texas, stands the Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. It’s a place where faith and community intertwine. The Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church has a rich history. It has deeply impacted the lives of many. Dr. William H. King, III, leads the congregation as pastor. His journey is a testament to dedication and service. Born in Houston’s Third Ward, Dr. King’s life has been one of unwavering faith. He received Christ as a child. His spiritual journey began in the Catholic Church, where he served as an altar boy. Later, he joined East Macedonia Baptist Church. There, he answered the call to preach at the young age of 18. Dr. King’s commitment extends beyond the church walls. He served in the United States Marine Corps, even participating in Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield. He also worked for the United States Postal Service, demonstrating leadership in every role. Dr. King’s leadership at Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church has been transformative. He founded the Greater New Hope Christian Academy, the Family Life Center, and the Equipping the Saints School of Ministry. He also established the Health and Healing Ministry and the Housing Ministry. He is currently working to designate the adjacent Magnolia Cemetery, the only African American Cemetery in Dickinson, as a Historical Landmark. It holds burials that predate the 1850s. Dr. King’s influence reaches into the civic sphere as well. He served seven terms as a Dickinson City Councilmember, twice as Mayor Pro-Tem. He also represented the council on the Houston-Galveston Area Council Board for eight years, serving as Vice-Chair, Chair Elect, and Chairman. He even ran for Galveston County Judge. As President of the Dickinson Ministerial Alliance, Dr. King has worked to unite pastors and community members. He has organized conferences, revivals, community events, and food distributions. He coordinated Community VBS to provide safe and enriching summer activities for youth. The Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, under Dr. King’s guidance, is more than just a place of worship. It is a beacon of hope. It is a center for education, service, and community engagement.
