Founded in 1933 the Greater Mount Moriah Baptist Church has a rich history. It began humbly in Linden New Jersey. A small group led by Reverend A R Ross gathered on South Wood Avenue. In 1935 the church found a home. Standard Oil Company generously donated land. The new building stood on East 14th Street. Reverend Ross served for sixteen years. He retired in 1948 due to ill health. Several pastors followed each contributing to the church’s growth. Reverend Matthew Frazier served from 1961 to 1980. He was a visionary leader. Today Reverend Barry E Wise II leads the church. He was installed as pastor in May 2015. He was raised in the church and mentored by Reverend Green. Reverend Wise aims to develop disciples of Jesus Christ. He focuses on programs that nurture relationships and emphasize worship. He emphasizes Christian education community outreach and church fellowship. Reverend Wise holds degrees from Penn State University and Columbia University.
