Let’s step back to January 10, 2010. Greater Emmanuel hosted a special Sunday night fellowship service. Bishop Samuel R. Johnson Sr. from Living Word World Ministries in Dayton, Ohio, was the guest speaker. J. Drew Sheard is the Senior Pastor of Greater Emmanuel Institutional Church of God in Christ.
The roots of the Church of God in Christ run deep. Bishop P.A. Brooks, a significant figure in the Church of God in Christ, served as the Founding Pastor of New St. Paul Tabernacle Church of God in Christ in Detroit for over 54 years. Since 1975, he was the presiding prelate of the Historic First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Michigan. Bishop Brooks also established the March of Faith Telecast and Radio Ministry. He understood the importance of technology. He established a presence for his local church on the World Wide Web. He even broadcast his Sunday Morning Worship Services via the Internet.
Bishop Brooks expanded his church ministry. This included education and senior housing. He also developed food programs. He is the founder of the Grandmont-Rosedale Christian School and Day Care.
Greater Emmanuel continues to serve its community. It gives Thanksgiving baskets to needy families. It offers tutorial services to students. It supports business incubator programs.
