A beacon of faith shines brightly on John R Street. Greater Deliverance Temple of Apostolic Faith Church stands as a testament to the power of belief and community. The story of Greater Deliverance Temple of Apostolic Faith Church is intertwined with the life of Bishop Nemiah Smith. He founded Apostolic Faith Temple in Detroit in 1972. The church’s early days were humble. The congregation held services in the homes of its members. A small storefront at 13213 Fenkell Street became their first official home. As the church grew, a larger facility at 20915 Evergreen Road in Southfield was acquired in 1975. Greater Deliverance Temple of Apostolic Faith Church continued to flourish. In 1990, the congregation moved to its current location on John R Street. This same year, Elder Smith was elevated to Bishop. The church’s name was later changed to Greater Apostolic Faith Temple. This change reflected its growth and progress. Bishop Smith led the church until his passing in 2007. He named Bishop Lambert W. Gates Sr. as his successor. Greater Deliverance Temple of Apostolic Faith Church remains a vibrant part of the Detroit community. It continues to serve as a place of worship, fellowship, and spiritual growth.
