The Great Kills Library opened its doors on January 2, 1927. It started as a small library branch. It was located on Giffords Lane at the corner of Margaret Street. The library is near the Staten Island Rapid Transit station.

In 1954, the Great Kills Library expanded. It moved into its current building. This location is also on Giffords Lane.
