Opened in 1960 Granite Hills has educated generations of Eagles. These Eagles have become community leaders. They are doctors teachers and even elected officials.
Granite Hills boasts a remarkable legacy. It’s been formally recognized for excellence by the California Department of Education. The school excels academically. Students thrive in Advanced Placement Honors and college preparatory classes. Uniquely Granite Hills is the only school in the Grossmont Union High School District to offer the International Baccalaureate program. This rigorous program allows high schoolers to tackle college-level studies.
But academics aren’t everything. Granite Hills offers a diverse range of career-technical education classes. Students explore paths in health and medical science criminal justice culinary arts and more. They participate in real-world experiences. Students intern at hospitals. They build theater sets. They even diagnose and treat student-athletes.
The school spirit is palpable. Granite Hills offers 26 CIF-sanctioned sports. Many of its athletes have gone on to compete at collegiate and professional levels. The school is proud of its state-of-the-art facilities. These include a 50-meter pool new tennis courts and a stadium with synthetic turf.
Yet Granite Hills’ story isn’t without its challenges. In 2001 a tragic shooting occurred. Five people were injured but thankfully no one died. The event left a lasting scar on the school community. Later soil contamination was discovered on the campus. This was a concern for everyone involved. Despite these challenges Granite Hills persevered. The school continues to thrive and prosper.
Granite Hills is a place of remarkable achievements. Its football team made history. In 2022 they secured their first state football championship. The Eagles went on to win consecutive San Diego Section titles in 2023 and 2024. This winning streak represents the spirit of Granite Hills.
