Established in 1884 as Glendale Cemetery Grand View Memorial Park and Crematory has a rich history. It was the only cemetery in the area for over two decades. Imagine the quiet solitude then. The landscape was heavily wooded a peaceful haven for the departed. Later in 1919 local builder Len C Davis purchased the grounds. He incorporated it as Grand View Memorial Park. Davis made significant improvements. He added a stunning 40-foot electrically illuminated arch. This grand entrance graced Glenwood Road. He also commissioned a magnificent mausoleum. This impressive structure was over 1000 feet long. It was built of reinforced concrete and marble. It included 3400 crypts and 2000 niches. A beautiful chapel seated 200 mourners. It featured Italian vases brimming with plants. This is where the first cremation took place in 1932.
The mausoleum was a landmark. It was a testament to the meticulous planning and craftsmanship of its time. Each crypt was carefully designed. A dry-air circulation system helped reduce odors. Sections were designated for fraternal orders. There were even private rooms with exterior windows. It was a true testament to the era’s attention to detail. But Grand View Memorial Park and Crematory persevered. In 2015 new owners Heritage Cemetery Management Inc. took over. They embarked on a massive restoration project. The grounds were revitalized. Buildings were repaired and the crematory was upgraded. Grand View Memorial Park and Crematory was reborn. Today visitors can explore the serene grounds. They can visit the beautifully restored mausoleum. They can appreciate the park’s historical significance. This is a place of reflection and remembrance.
