Stalin’s empire style. It houses a breathtaking spectacle. We’re standing before the Grand Maket Russia. It’s not just a model. It’s a miniature world brimming with life.

Grand Maket Russia is the world’s second-largest model layout. Only Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg, Germany, is bigger. Sergey Morozov, a businessman from St. Petersburg, created this impressive project. The museum officially opened on June 8, 2012. But its journey began long before.

The Grand Maket Russia sprawls across 800 square meters. It uses a HO scale of 1:87. This expansive area showcases collective images of Russia’s diverse regions. Imagine seeing Russia’s vastness condensed into this space. It stretches from the Far East to the Baltic Sea’s amber coast.

Over five years, more than one hundred people worked tirelessly to build it. First, they built a wooden frame. Next came the foundations for roads and railroads. Then workers installed wooden ribs and covered them with 11 tons of plaster.

Everyday life in Russia comes alive through detailed models. You’ll see scenes of work, leisure, sports, and study. Even military service and country life are represented. There are mass celebrations and even a tiny prison escape attempt.

Ground transportation is incredibly detailed. Cars, trucks, trams, and buses move realistically. You’ll also find agricultural, construction, and military equipment. Push interactive buttons to set elements in motion. This brings the miniature world to life.

The Grand Maket Russia features advanced technical solutions. The day/night system is particularly captivating. Every 13 minutes, the lighting changes to simulate day turning into night. Night lasts for two minutes. Over 800,000 LED lights illuminate the model. These lights create a realistic effect without casting shadows.

The movement of road vehicles is equally impressive. Cars and buses stop at traffic lights and bus stops. They also obey flashing signals. Vehicles change speeds and bypass each other. Electrical energy powers the automobiles remotely from underneath the model. This innovative method was a first of its kind.

Railway traffic is optimized with a multi-level system. Over 2,500 meters of rails and 452 switch boxes are used. The model has more than 2,700 rolling stock. This includes 250 locomotives. Special cleaning trains keep the tracks clear. Two revolver exchangers store up to 60 trains. They dispatch them as needed. Turntables rotate locomotives up to 180 degrees. The largest height difference in the model is one meter. Spiral lifts achieve this with over 50 meters of track.

Grand Maket Russia has earned several awards. In 2014, it was listed as one of Russia’s top 10 museums by TripAdvisor users. It was also among the top 10 most photographed places in St. Petersburg.

The Grand Maket Russia offers an unforgettable experience. It’s informative, exciting, safe, and comfortable for everyone. The intricate details and dynamic features will surprise and delight you. The museum is accessible. It provides parking, comfortable areas, a cafe, and facilities for people with disabilities. There are special steps for young visitors. Even a mother and child room is available.

As you explore the Grand Maket Russia, you’ll witness a miniature world come to life. It’s a testament to creativity, engineering, and a deep appreciation for Russia’s vastness and diversity. I encourage you to get lost in its tiny streets and expansive landscapes.
