Gralheira consistently experiences colder temperatures than Guarda, Portugal’s highest city. In 2021, the average annual temperature in Gralheira was a brisk 10.6 degrees Celsius. This makes Gralheira the third coldest village in all of Portugal. Despite the cold, Gralheira was once a bustling village. It even served as the seat of its own parish until 2013 when it was merged with Alhões, Bustelo, and Ramires. While the village may be small, its history is rich. Gralheira, meaning “granary,” was once known as Agralheira, hinting at its agricultural past. Today, Gralheira offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
