“What makes Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church so special?” I hear you ask. Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church stands as a beacon of faith. Its story is deeply rooted in a commitment to God’s glory. Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church exists for the praise of our Lord. The church’s origins trace back to June 15 1978 as an Orthodox Presbyterian church. However its real history began in June 1963. Duane Edward Spencer a Methodist minister resigned due to theological liberalism.
Spencer and others established Grace Bible Church of San Antonio. They first worshipped in a Ramada Inn ballroom. The church grew steadily. A seven-acre property was purchased near Interstate 10 and NW Loop 410. Military barracks were moved there. They were remodeled into an attractive church complex. The sale of this property later funded the current Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church facilities. These are located at Interstate 10 and Utex Blvd.
Spencer was a popular speaker. He had an international radio ministry. His preaching focused on key words of Scripture. This involved studying original languages to interpret the Bible. This led to rediscovering truths taught by the Protestant Reformers. Spencer became convinced that the Reformation was a watershed moment. He believed Reformed Theology was based on God’s word. In 1977 Grace Bible Church applied for membership in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church.
Spencer’s preaching on election and predestination stirred controversy in the mid-1970s. Many churches vilified or suppressed these doctrines. English reformer John Bradford said to first learn faith and repentance before election and predestination. Duane Spencer opened the doors to that university for many.
Duane Spencer passed away on December 28 1981. Jack Peterson succeeded him. He served as Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church’s pastor for over 20 years. Nathan Hornfeld is the current pastor. Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church is committed to the glory of God. The Orthodox Presbyterian Church strives to keep its eyes fixed on Christ Jesus. It endeavors to live righteously in obedience to God’s Word.

Ministries extend to shut-ins and nursing homes.
