Grace in Action

Have you ever heard of a church that’s also a tech hub? Right here in Southwest Detroit, Grace in Action isn’t your typical place of worship. It’s a vibrant community center, a place where faith and technology intertwine. Grace in Action, or GIA as the locals call it, is more than just a Sunday service. It’s the heart of Grace in Action Collectives, a network of youth-run and worker-owned collectives. These groups are building a stronger Southwest Detroit by sharing resources, knowledge, and time. They offer quality products and services, empowering the community from within. One of their most exciting projects is the Equitable Internet Initiative. GIA aims to create a community-owned wireless internet network, bridging the digital divide in Southwest Detroit. They’re not just providing access; they’re training young people to become tech experts, building a future where the community controls its own digital destiny. Imagine teenagers learning to build and maintain wireless networks, empowering their neighbors and creating a more equitable future. Grace in Action also partners with other organizations like WNUC Community Radio and BLVD Harambee. Together, they’re spreading the knowledge and skills needed for communities across Detroit to build their own digital infrastructure. Inside Grace in Action, the spirit of innovation is palpable. Radical Productions, a youth-run collective under the GIA umbrella, designs websites and creates graphic designs for clients across Detroit and beyond. The church building itself, located on Lawndale Street, hosts a wide range of activities. From coding classes and breakdancing to guitar lessons and family nights, Grace in Action is a bustling hub of creativity and community. It’s a place where faith inspires action, where technology empowers change, and where the future is being built, one connection at a time. Grace in Action is more than just a church; it’s a testament to the power of community, innovation, and the unwavering belief in a better future for Southwest Detroit.
