Established in 1912, Grace Community Church in San Diego has witnessed over a century of transformation. Originally, Grace Community Church wasn’t known by that name. It was called “Scott Memorial” for years before its renaming in 2009. This shift reflects the church’s evolution while maintaining its core values. Dr. Tim LaHaye’s leadership marked a significant era for Grace Community Church. His vision extended beyond the church walls, leading to the founding of Christian High School, Christian Heritage College (now San Diego Christian College), and the Institute for Creation Research. These institutions stand as a testament to Grace Community Church’s commitment to education and research. Today, Grace Community Church continues its mission to “make resilient disciples who reorient their lives to the way of Jesus.” This mission statement encapsulates the church’s focus on fostering spiritual growth and a Christ-centered life. The church emphasizes its identity as “missionary people,” striving to spread the Gospel globally. They embrace diversity as a “multi-ethnic family” united by faith. The church also cultivates a “tangible presence” of God through prayer and worship, seeking a deeper connection with the divine. Through “counter-formation,” members are encouraged to transform their lives by following Jesus’ example. This commitment extends to “sacrificial generosity,” giving time, resources, and possessions to further God’s kingdom.
