In 1912, a seed of faith was planted in San Diego’s fertile soil. This seed blossomed into Grace Baptist Church. Grace Baptist Church has witnessed the ebb and flow of San Diego’s history for over a century. Under the leadership of Dr. Tim LaHaye, Grace Baptist Church played a pivotal role in establishing several key institutions. These included Christian High School and Christian Heritage College, now known as San Diego Christian College. The church also helped found the Institute for Creation Research. Before becoming Grace Church San Diego in 2009, it was known as Scott Memorial for many years. Today, Grace Baptist Church continues to thrive. It stands as a testament to its enduring mission. It seeks to make resilient disciples who reorient their lives to the way of Jesus. The church’s foundation rests on biblical truth. Its message centers on God’s grace, love, and hope. This message is firmly anchored in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. The church welcomes newcomers to join its weekend services or a house church in their area. It emphasizes its identity as “missionary people,” sent to spread the gospel. It fosters a multi-ethnic “gospel community” united by the good news of Jesus’s reconciliation. The church cultivates a “tangible presence” of God through prayer and worship. It practices “counter-formation” by encouraging disciples to walk in Jesus’s way. It also promotes “sacrificial generosity,” urging members to give their time, money, and possessions to further God’s Kingdom.
