What began as a small gathering has blossomed into a vibrant community. Welcome to Grace Anointing Church. This church is more than just a building. It is a testament to faith’s enduring power.
The Grace Congregation started in March 1996. It began in a school classroom with just thirty-three people. Mr. E. A. Abboah-Offei led the service. Mr. S. A. Asare delivered the sermon. The offertory that day was eleven thousand one hundred and seventy cedis. That is about one Ghana cedi and twenty pesewas today.
Soon after, the Church Choir was formed. Mr. Augustus Asah-Awuku became the first Choir Master. The Y.P.G, Women’s and Men’s Fellowship, and the Bible Study & Prayer Group followed. Grace Anointing Church grew quickly. In one year, the congregation increased by over 700%. The offertory also rose significantly. Mr. E. A. Sampson was appointed as the Congregation’s Caretaker.
Reverend Felix Asante and Raymond Baah Abeka played important roles. They were instrumental in establishing the Grace Congregation. By 2011, the church had grown so much that a preaching post was started at Ananse Nkwanta. That same year, Grace Anointing Church partnered with Compassion International. This international NGO expanded its work to Ghana’s Eastern Region.
The initial idea came from the Evangelism and Lay Training Committee. They wanted Presbyterian churches to open more branches. Christ Congregation supported the opening of a church at the Presbyterian Junior Secondary School. Two presbyters were chosen to start the preaching point. It later became Grace Anointing Church. They freely introduced charismatic worship styles. These styles were not as accepted at Christ Congregation. The new church added testimony time and prayer festivals to the liturgy. The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana later embraced this innovation.
Many people joined the new church. Some had faced afflictions. Some were freed from demonic forces. Others were healed from illnesses. This created loyalty to the church. Some of these members remain today.
The church’s early days coincided with problems in the Presbyterian Church. Many members left to join new charismatic churches. Grace Anointing Church offered a welcoming alternative.
In February 1999, Reverend Felix Asante became the Minister-In-Charge. In June 1999, Mr. E.A. Sampson became the Caretaker. A new Management Committee was formed. The church was becoming a full congregation.
Reverend Felix Asante served until 2004. Then, Reverend R. Baah Abekah took over. In 2011, Grace Congregation took responsibility for the Ananse Nkwanta preaching point. The membership grew significantly in two years.
Grace Anointing Church is unique. It sees itself as a Grace Family. It has the Grace Presbyterian Congregation. It also has the Grace Evangelistic Team. The Grace Fellowship brings people together. Grace-in-Diaspora includes members living abroad.
The Grace Anointing Church stands as a testament to faith. It embraces innovation. It supports the community. It extends its reach beyond its walls. Its story is one of growth, adaptation, and unwavering devotion.
