Gowanbank Primary School

Before Gowanbank Primary School stood here children learned elsewhere. Gowanbank Primary School wasn’t always here on Overtown Avenue. It has a history. The school’s original building closed in February 2018. Pupils then moved to the new Gowanbank Campus. This campus sits on the old Levern Primary School site. The old Gowanbank building was demolished in July 2018. It had been sadly targeted by vandals. Fires damaged the building in 2013 and 2016. The site wasn’t wasted. Rosehill Housing Co-operative bought the land. They plan to build 44 homes for social rent. The sale happened in 2023. The new homes are much needed. They are near the Silverburn shopping centre. Even a janitor’s house was there once. However it was empty long before the school closed. The janitor had left long before. The house was demolished along with the school. So here we stand today. Gowanbank Primary School’s legacy lives on. Its story continues in its new location. Though the buildings have changed the spirit of learning remains. Gowanbank Primary School continues to educate Glasgow’s children. It’s a testament to the community’s resilience. A commitment to education persists. It’s a place where young minds flourish.
