Gould Mesa Trail Camp doesn’t have running water or many amenities. It does have fire rings for campfires under the starry sky. Be ready for a primitive experience. There are few facilities like toilets and showers. The natural beauty makes Gould Mesa a solid camping choice.

Gould Mesa Trail Camp has five hike-in campsites. Each has picnic tables and campfire rings. Vault toilets are available. Trash receptacles are provided. No piped water is available. Seasonal stream water must be treated. Water flow may be low due to reduced rainfall. Bring enough water for cooking, cleaning, drinking, and extinguishing campfires.

Equestrians can use the hitching rail with 52 linear feet. Gould Mesa Trail Camp is two miles from Ventura Street on the Gabrielino Trail. Starting in Altadena near the Jet Propulsion Laboratory means walking through riparian groves. Enjoy a tranquil stream with steep ridges. The trek to Gould Mesa Trail Camp is 5.1 miles round trip. There is 300 feet of elevation change.

To get here from Interstate 210 WEST in La Canada, take Windsor Ave. Turn right on Windsor to Ventura St. and park. Take the Gabrielino Trail two miles to the campground. Or, from Interstate 210, exit at Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy. 2). Head north about two miles. Park on the right before entering the forest. Hike the dirt road one mile past the power substation to the campground.

Remember, you must have a California campfire permit to build a fire at Gould Mesa Trail Camp. Campsites are first-come, first-served. Enjoy free established camping on government land. Expect limited or no services.
