Ever wanted to ride a miniature replica of Germany’s first train? The Görlitzer Oldtimer Parkeisenbahn is a delightful place to do just that. Located in the southern part of Görlitz near the Weinberghaus, this vintage park railway offers a unique experience that combines a nostalgic journey with the beauty of a lush park landscape.

The Görlitzer Oldtimer Parkeisenbahn was built in 1976, making it the 11th park railway in East Germany. It was carefully designed to recreate the atmosphere of the original “Adler” that ran between Nuremberg and Fürth more than a century before. Even the train itself, a diesel locomotive, was built by Waggonbau Görlitz to resemble its predecessor. It’s a miniature replica of the original “Adler”, but it’s just as charming and exciting.

Since 1993, the railway has been operated by a dedicated group of volunteers. They have kept the “Adler” and its passenger cars in excellent shape. Today, the vintage train chugs along a 600 mm narrow-gauge track, making its way around a charming park and wooded area. It travels at a leisurely pace, offering visitors a chance to soak in the sights and sounds of the Görlitzer countryside. The Görlitzer Oldtimer Parkeisenbahn is more than just a train ride; it’s a journey back in time.
