Gordon Road Girls’ School

In 1912 a beacon of education was lit, right here at the Gordon Road Girls’ School. Initially known as Florida Road Government School, it began its journey with a modest cohort of 30 infant learners under the leadership of its first headmistress, Mrs Nelson Palmer. Gordon Road Girls’ School has always been dedicated to fostering a love for learning. The school found its forever home on these grounds in 1917, becoming Gordon Road Government School. Picture the excitement as the students and teachers transitioned into “The Shed,” the original building that still stands today! Over time, this building, steeped in history, transformed into the heart of the school’s music program. In 1938, Gordon Road Girls’ School embraced its identity as an all-girls institution, and the crisp white uniforms, red belts, and navy hats, still worn with pride today, were introduced. As we stand before its iconic facade, imagine the generations of young women who walked these halls, their laughter echoing through time.
