For over 120 years Good Shepherd Catholic Church has stood as a beacon of faith in Denver’s Congress Park neighborhood. Its history isn’t just bricks and mortar. It’s a story woven from the lives of countless individuals. Good Shepherd wasn’t always Good Shepherd.
Initially two separate parishes St John the Evangelist and St Philomena served the community. They shared a common faith and a common mission. They worked together supporting their neighbors. These sister parishes thrived for many years. They served the community carrying the names of two great saints.
In 1981 a significant change occurred. The two parishes combined becoming the Good Shepherd Catholic Parish we know today. This unification created a stronger more vibrant community. The church now serves a diverse congregation of young adults families and those with deep roots in the parish.
Good Shepherd is more than just a place of worship. It’s a hub of activity. There’s an outstanding Catholic school and a thriving Faith Formation Program. Many active ministries invite participation. The church fosters a sense of belonging and connection. It offers spiritual guidance and community support.
The church has undergone renovations. Palace Construction recently completed an interior rehabilitation. The sanctuary and meeting facilities were updated. Life safety upgrades were also made at the adjacent school. This ensured the continued use of these important community resources.
