Good Samaritan Church of San Diego is located in the University City neighborhood. It is easy to reach. It is a short walk from the Executive Drive Blue Line Trolley Station. Ample parking is also available for those who prefer to drive.
Worship is a central part of life here. It connects people to God and to each other. The church offers both online and in-person services.
On Sundays, there are two main services. At 8:00 a.m. there is a simple spoken service with Communion in the sanctuary. This is an in-person service only. At 10:00 a.m. there is a contemporary Eucharist service with music. This service is available in person, via Zoom, and streamed on Facebook. During the school year, Sunday School is available for children. Adult forums with educational series and speakers follow the 10:00 a.m. service. Childcare is available from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Weekday prayer is also an important part of the church’s rhythm. Morning Prayer and Compline are held at 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. These are streamed on the church’s Facebook page.
Community is a vital aspect of Good Samaritan Church of San Diego. Members love fellowship. The Community Life team plans many events throughout the year. Coffee and fellowship follow the 10 a.m. service on Sundays. This is a great way to meet new people. Family Movie Nights and Game Nights draw fun lovers of all ages. Walking Groups explore local trails and city walks. An end-of-summer picnic at a local park attracts many families. Community dinners are hosted several times a year. The Men’s and Women’s Groups offer fellowship outings and retreats. The Memorial Receptions team prepares food and decorations for memorial services.
Good Samaritan Church of San Diego is involved in numerous ministries. These include youth and children’s ministry. Godly Play and re:Form are offered. There are also family fun nights. Outreach ministry is strong. The church supports CCSA with food and clothing collection. They also participate in an annual walk. They organize neighborhood clean-ups. Food drives happen twice a year. Donations are made to various non-profit organizations. The church supports an interfaith shelter for two weeks a year. They provide meals for St. Andrew’s Homeless Outreach. They also support Rachel’s House Women’s Center. They even participate in Build a Miracle in Tijuana, Mexico.
Sacred Ground is another important ministry. It is a dialogue series on race grounded in faith. Small groups explore America’s history of race, racism, and whiteness. They weave in threads of family story, economic class, and political identity. The series uses documentary films and readings. It focuses on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories. It examines how these intersect with European American histories. Sacred Ground comes out of the Episcopal Church’s commitment to racial healing. It promotes reconciliation and justice.
