Founded in 1944 the Good Faith Missionary Baptist Church has a rich history. It began as a small mission started by William Cobbs. He and Walter Strauther organized the group into a church. They named it Holy Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. This was in memory of the church where Pastor Cobbs worshipped as a child. Initially services were held in rented space.

The church grew rapidly. Its membership expanded. Soon the rented property was purchased. The congregation outgrew their space. In 1955 they bought land at 11676 S Central Avenue. Groundbreaking was in 1957. Members marched from their old building to the new one.

Tragedy struck. The freeway’s path threatened their property. They found a new location. Sadly the founder Rev Cobbs passed away before the new church opened. Rev George Cobbs Sr took over. He oversaw construction completion in 1973. The cornerstone was laid in 1975.

More challenges came. In 1991 a fire destroyed the building. Undeterred the congregation worshipped in other churches. They leased space until their building was rebuilt. A ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrated the reopening in 1993. The Good Faith Missionary Baptist Church persevered through difficult times. They demonstrate faith and resilience. Their story is one of growth adaptation and enduring faith. The church stands as a testament to the power of community and belief. It continues to serve its community. It’s a beacon of hope and a symbol of enduring faith.
