“Ever heard of a golf course designed by someone who worked with a legend?” Golfplatz Warnemünde, opened in 2009, isn’t just any golf course. It’s a testament to the vision of Canadian designer David Krause, who collaborated with the renowned Robert Trent Jones Senior. Krause, drawing inspiration from his work with Jones, including projects like the Valderama Golfclub in Spain, brought a unique design philosophy to Golfplatz Warnemünde. Here, nestled amidst the unique coastal landscape near Warnemünde’s center, the natural topography is respected, blended with carefully chosen elements. Existing plants and vegetation were integrated into the design. Golfplatz Warnemünde offers a 27-hole course, cleverly designed to be combined into three distinct 18-hole courses, catering to different skill levels and ensuring year-round play. Imagine teeing off on the Henkel & Lares Course, a challenging combination of holes 1-9 and 10-18, frequently used for tournaments. This course stretches 6173 meters from the yellow tees and 5091 meters from the red. Or perhaps you’d prefer the Audi Zentrum Rostock Course, a blend of holes 10-18 and 19-27, offering a sporty yet relaxed experience. Measuring 5996 meters from yellow and 5060 meters from red, this course offers a slightly shorter, more sheltered round. For a more tranquil start, the Hotel Warnemünder Hof Course combines holes 19-27 and 1-9. This layout lets you enjoy the more sheltered holes first, before venturing onto the potentially windier front nine. The course lengths are 6001 meters from yellow and 5061 meters from red. Although you can’t see the Baltic Sea from the course, you can sometimes catch a whiff of the sea air, depending on the wind direction. Beyond the 27-hole course, Golfplatz Warnemünde also boasts a 6-hole executive course, open to the public. This shorter course, with two par 4s and four par 3s, provides a welcoming environment even for beginners without a course permit. A generous practice area with covered teeing grounds allows for practice in any weather. After your round at Golfplatz Warnemünde, the clubhouse awaits. This inviting space, designed in the style of a Mecklenburg-Vorpommern three-sided farm, houses the reception, a pro shop, and a restaurant where you can relax and recount the day’s triumphs on the green.
