Nestled in the heart of Winterhude, the Goldbek-Schule isn’t just a school. It’s a vibrant hub of creativity and learning. The Goldbek-Schule became a teilgebundene Ganztagsschule, a partially bound all-day school, in the summer of 2013. This means students have a mix of required classes and flexible time for activities. The school partners with the Akademie für Kinder (AfK) to provide comprehensive care and enrichment programs. Imagine children exploring the beautiful grounds, playing amongst the trees, or climbing aboard the impressive Kletterschiff, a large play ship funded by the school’s Förderverein (friends association). The Goldbek-Schule pulsates with music. As a JeKi-Schule (Jedem Kind ein Instrument – Every Child an Instrument), it introduces every student to the joy of music. From the first grade, children explore different instruments, shedding any fear of musical expression. By third grade, they even join an orchestra, creating beautiful melodies together. The Goldbek-Schule is deeply rooted in the Winterhude community. It collaborates with local institutions like the Bauspielplatz Poßmoorwiese, the Akademie Hamburg für Musik und Kultur, and even the Boxschool, offering a diverse range of experiences. After a two-year relocation, the Goldbek-Schule returned to its renovated building at Poßmoorweg 22 in 2017. This modern building boasts bright classrooms, inviting spaces for creative play, a well-equipped library (the “Leseschiff” or “Reading Ship”), a spacious gymnasium, and even a stage with the “Goldbek-Nest,” a dedicated performance area. The Goldbek-Schule also has a unique approach to learning. Traditional homework is replaced by “Schulaufgaben,” school tasks completed during dedicated learning time in the “Lernbüro.” This allows students to focus on their studies during school hours, leaving their afternoons free for extracurricular activities and family time. The school believes in nurturing well-rounded individuals. While the focus is on music and the arts, sports, languages, and science also play essential roles. The Goldbek-Schule truly embodies the spirit of a holistic education, fostering a love of learning and a strong sense of community.
