The G\u00f6rlitzer Oldtimer Parkeisenbahn was built in 1976, making it the 11th park railway in East Germany. It was carefully designed to recreate the atmosphere of the original “Adler” that ran between Nuremberg and F\u00fcrth more than a century before. Even the train itself, a diesel locomotive, was built by Waggonbau G\u00f6rlitz to resemble its predecessor. It’s a miniature replica of the original “Adler”, but it’s just as charming and exciting.
Since 1993, the railway has been operated by a dedicated group of volunteers. They have kept the “Adler” and its passenger cars in excellent shape. Today, the vintage train chugs along a 600 mm narrow-gauge track, making its way around a charming park and wooded area. It travels at a leisurely pace, offering visitors a chance to soak in the sights and sounds of the G\u00f6rlitzer countryside.
