Go Forth Mural

Whispers of “Go Forth” echo from a Berlin wall. Right here on Chausseestrasse, the Go Forth Mural commands attention. This isn’t just street art. It’s a piece of Berlin’s vibrant cultural tapestry, woven into the fabric of the city by Portuguese artist Alexandre Farto, also known as Vhils. In 2011, Levi’s launched their “Go Forth” campaign, a celebration of pioneers shaping Berlin’s cultural renaissance. Vhils was commissioned to immortalize four such individuals. This mural is one of four created for this project. Each mural features a portrait, carved into the wall using Vhils’ distinctive technique. He uses drills, chisels, even explosives, to sculpt his images, revealing the layers beneath. This Go Forth Mural depicts Joe Hatchiban, the founder of Bearpit Karaoke at Mauerpark. Imagine the energy of that karaoke session, the raw emotion, now captured forever in the textured depths of this wall. The other murals in the series portray individuals like Sven Marquardt, the iconic face of Berghain, and Fadi Saad, a youth worker making a difference in Berlin’s neighborhoods.
