The history of Christianity in Thailand has seen challenges. Early missionaries faced persecution from the Buddhist monarchy. Yet, they persisted. They spread their faith throughout the country. Even today, Thai Christians can face discrimination. Some Thais view their beliefs as foreign or threatening.

In 1854, a missionary arrived in Bangkok. His name was Elam Luddington. He was sent to the Kingdom of Siam. Siam is what Thailand was known as back then. Luddington stayed for only four months. The language barrier proved too difficult.
In 1966, Gordon B. Hinckley dedicated Thailand. He dedicated it for the preaching of the gospel. Later that year, the first Thai convert was baptized. Her name was Ningnoi Thitapoora.
The first meetinghouse in Thailand was dedicated in 1974. This happened in Asoke, Bangkok. About 350 local members attended. Elder David B. Haight officiated.
The Church has grown since then. In 1995, the Bangkok Thailand Stake was created. Thipparad Kitsaward became its president.
