“Equip their congregations.” That’s what Mission Global Fellowship Church set out to do. It started in the late 1990s. Gertrude Garrett Nichols and Dr. Charles Leslie Jr. founded it. She worked as the Mission Mobilizer of African Americans. This was for Wycliffe Bible Translators in Dallas TX.

Mission Global Fellowship Church aimed to gather pastors. They wanted to make them aware of their responsibilities. These responsibilities included equipping their congregations. The goal was to empower them for the Great Commission. Jesus Christ gave this commission in Matthew 28:18-20.

Thus, Mission Global Fellowship Church was born. Meetings began at Southern Bible Institute & College in Dallas TX. They met monthly. Meetings occurred for two hours. This happened on the fourth Saturday of each month.

The meetings of Mission Global Fellowship Church focused on several key areas. These areas were praising God and worshiping him. They prayed for mission organizations. They also prayed for missionaries and their work. The church promoted global missions through education. A Bible lesson was presented.

Mission Global Fellowship Church also provided opportunities. These were for going on short-term mission trips. They proclaimed field reports as missionaries returned.

Dr. Leslie shared a recent mission trip during a class. One student said, “Reverend Leslie take us.” Twelve students a professor and Dr. Leslie journeyed to Uganda Africa. This trip lasted two weeks. Gene Wright and his wife Angela hosted them. They were African Americans. They worked with Young Life at the time.

In 2003, the first team of students went on a foreign mission trip. They came from Southern Bible Institute & College. Mission Global Fellowship Church continued to meet. This even occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. They met virtually. They used Zoom and conference calls.

The church’s mission is clear. It is about mobilizing congregations. It is about spreading the word of the Great Commission. It equips people. It sends them out into the world.
