Established in 1871 or 1872 Glendale Baptist Church stands before you a testament to faith and resilience. Its humble beginnings were far from the imposing structure you see today. The congregation initially met in a small one-room schoolhouse shared with other churches. They called themselves the Union United Baptist Church.
Imagine the simplicity of those early services. No appointed pastor until 1883 when Elder William Bunch took on the role. Meetings were held on the first Saturday before the first Sunday of each month. Sunday School flourished only during the warmer months. These devout individuals laid the foundation for the thriving Glendale Baptist Church we know.
Tragedy struck in November 1894. A devastating fire consumed their meeting house. Undeterred the church voted in March 1895 to build a new edifice a truly Baptist church independent of schools and other denominations. The name changed reflecting this independence becoming the Missionary Baptist Meeting House at Glendale.
By July 1896 Glendale Baptist Church found a new affiliation joining the Concord Baptist Association. This marked a significant shift from its earlier association with the Southern Baptist and Buckner Baptist associations. Their journey demonstrates a remarkable spirit of adaptation and perseverance.
