Glen-Villa was among the finest apartment complexes Highland Park offered. Yet like many buildings in Detroit modernization proved costly. Lower rents led to deferred maintenance. The building aged. The inevitable happened. In February 1993 a devastating five-alarm fire tore through Glen-Villa starting on the fourth floor. Tragically Roderick Halton a 36-year-old resident perished in the blaze.
