In 1888, residents of Glen Ridge sought to create a Union Church. Forty signed the call for this special meeting. A committee formed to explore this possibility. The D. L. and W. Railroad offered its new station for Sunday services.
Glen Ridge Congregational Church’s original members came from diverse backgrounds. They included Methodists, Episcopalians, Dutch Reformists, Presbyterians, and one Congregationalist. Surprisingly, they became a Congregational Church. Members wanted to blend ideas and worship styles. Congregationalism was chosen for its adaptability.
