Seodaemun-gu is known as Seoul’s cultural and artistic periphery. Park Seo-Bo wanted to start an art program for local residents. He wanted to heal hearts and expand memories. The GIZI FOUNDATION has become this place.
Park Seo-Bo reflected on his life at 89. He felt economic times were never better. Yet, young people face more depression and joblessness. Like seedlings, youth need good soil to grow. He saw his participation in the 1961 World Youth Paris Conference as eye-opening. He now wants the GIZI FOUNDATION to be a stepping stone. It should allow Korean artists to flourish globally.
The GIZI FOUNDATION’s location is significant. It is Park’s last studio where he lived and worked. His art, materials, and artistic spirit remain here. It is hoped that this place will positively influence the local community. It will also be a resource for emerging artists.
