In 1999, a bold vision took root in Hanover. Right here at Goethestraße 18, the GISMA Business School Hannover began its journey. It was the brainchild of Gerhard Schröder and several powerhouse companies like Continental AG and Volkswagen AG. GISMA Business School Hannover was established to cultivate future business leaders. The school partnered with the prestigious Krannert School of Management in the US. This partnership offered a unique transatlantic perspective. Students at GISMA Business School Hannover received MBAs from both institutions. The school’s early years saw a faculty primarily composed of Krannert professors flown in from the US. This sparked debate about the curriculum’s relevance to European business practices. GISMA responded by expanding its own faculty, integrating more European perspectives. By 2002, a quarter of the teaching staff were GISMA’s own. The school expanded its offerings beyond the Krannert MBAs. A homegrown Executive MBA in Health Management was launched in collaboration with Potsdam Medical School. Despite early successes, GISMA Business School Hannover faced financial challenges in the 2010s. Declining student enrollment and frozen grants led to bankruptcy proceedings in 2013. A lifeline arrived in the form of Global University Systems (GUS). GUS acquired GISMA, securing its future and ushering in a new era of growth. Today, GISMA Business School Hannover continues to empower students from around the globe. It offers a range of programs, including its AMBA-accredited Global MBA. The school stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and the enduring pursuit of business excellence.
