Their hard work supplied resources to the military and local businesses. This was instrumental in Las Vegas’s early growth. Elda passed away in 1968. She dedicated her life to her ranch and sons.
Bill developed a deep love for animals. He especially loved birds. When Bill was nine he found an abandoned quail. He asked his mother to care for it. She said yes. This moment sparked his lifelong passion. Ted focused on the ranch’s operations. Over time the family donated land. This donation led to the Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary. Ted passed away in 2003.
William Gilcrease officially founded the sanctuary in 1979. He passed away in 2017 at 98. The Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary is a non-profit. It is dedicated to providing a safe haven for animals.
