Perhaps you would never guess the story behind this peaceful church. Gi\u00e1o x\u1ee9 T\u00e2n Quy has a history stretching back nearly a century. Its story involves war and faith. It is a testament to the resilience of its parishioners.
Around 1930, Father Phaol\u00f4 Xu\u00e2n from Gi\u00e1o x\u1ee9 Ch\u1ee3 C\u1ea7u first made contact with locals. He converted some to Catholicism. Father Xu\u00e2n built a small chapel in \u1ea4p 3, X\u00e3 T\u00e2n Th\u1ea1nh T\u00e2y, C\u1ee7 Chi. Sadly, it was burned down by soldiers in 1945.
For years, the remaining Catholics practiced their faith quietly. They traveled to distant churches. These included Ch\u1ee3 C\u1ea7u, H\u00f3c M\u00f4n and B\u00ecnh D\u01b0\u01a1ng. Later, they attended services closer to home. C\u1ee7 Chi and B\u1eafc H\u00e0 were among them.
A turning point came in 1969-1970. Mr. Giuse H\u1ed3 V\u0103n Gi\u1ecfi donated land to Father Ant\u00f4n Tr\u1ea7n V\u0103n Ph\u00e1n. Father Ph\u00e1n was in charge of Gi\u00e1o x\u1ee9 B\u1eafc H\u00e0 at the time. Initially, Father Ph\u00e1n built a charity pharmacy. He also celebrated Mass every Sunday. This marked the beginning of the Gi\u00e1o x\u1ee9 T\u00e2n Quy.
In 1975, Father Giuse Nguy\u1ec5n \u0110\u00ecnh H\u00f2e took over. As the country reunified, parishioners gradually returned. Gi\u00e1o h\u1ecd T\u00e2n Quy was formed with over 200 members.
Then in 1992, Father T\u00f4ma Nguy\u1ec5n V\u0103n \u0110i\u1ec3u became responsible. He oversaw Gi\u00e1o x\u1ee9 Ph\u00fa H\u00f2a \u0110\u00f4ng, Gi\u00e1o h\u1ecd T\u00e2n Th\u1ea1nh \u0110\u00f4ng and Gi\u00e1o h\u1ecd T\u00e2n Quy.
In 2000, Father T\u00f4ma \u0110i\u1ec3u built the Gi\u00e1o x\u1ee9 T\u00e2n Quy rectory. From then on, T\u00e2n Quy separated from Ph\u00fa H\u00f2a \u0110\u00f4ng. Father T\u00f4ma \u0110i\u1ec3u resided permanently in T\u00e2n Quy.
The new church was completed in 2002. Bishop Ph\u00ear\u00f4 Tr\u1ea7n \u0110\u00ecnh T\u1ee9 consecrated it on November 23, 2002. The bishop elevated T\u00e2n Quy to a parish. It had nearly 400 parishioners at that time.
Today, Gi\u00e1o x\u1ee9 T\u00e2n Quy consists of two religious groups. They are dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption and the Immaculate Conception. The parish has around 700 members. Besides long-time residents, many new parishioners have moved here. The area is increasingly urbanized.
In 2013, Father T\u00f4ma retired due to health issues. Bishop appointed Father Ant\u00f4n Ho\u00e0ng Ng\u1ecdc \u1ea8n to succeed him. Then on June 3, 2020, Bishop Giuse Nguy\u1ec5n T\u1ea5n T\u01b0\u1edbc appointed Father Giuse Ph\u1ea1m V\u0103n H\u00f2a. He was formerly the parish priest of B\u1eafc H\u00e0. Father H\u00f2a remains the parish priest of Gi\u00e1o x\u1ee9 T\u00e2n Quy to this day.
Gi\u00e1o x\u1ee9 T\u00e2n Quy stands as a beacon of faith. It is a testament to the enduring spirit of its community.
