Giáo xứ Lam Sơn isn’t just a church. It’s a living testament to faith resilience and community. Established in 1976 by Archbishop Paul Nguyễn Văn Bình it rose from the ashes of a much smaller chapel. That original chapel Thanh Vicente was built in the late 1950s by Catholic families who fled to the South. It was tragically destroyed during the war in 1968.
The original structure was modest. It measured only 144 square meters. It provided a sanctuary for a growing congregation. Then Father Nguyễn Văn Nhơn stepped forward. He tirelessly led the parish for decades. He rallied the community. They bought more land surrounding the church. They expanded its footprint. He oversaw the construction of the current church.
The new Giáo xứ Lam Sơn which opened in 2007 stands as a proud beacon of faith. Its spacious grounds now cover nearly 2500 square meters. The old chapel was repurposed. It became a community center. It continues to play a vital role in parish life.
Father Nhơn’s dedication didn’t end with the new building’s completion. He continued his pastoral care. The congregation grew to over 2300 members. This led to the establishment of a fourth parish area. The parish also actively supports the young. It provides religious education for children. They built a new religious education center.
In 2016 Father Nhơn retired. Father Gioan Bt Phạm Văn Lâm took the reins. He carries on the legacy of service and devotion. He continues to improve the church and facilities. Giáo xứ Lam Sơn continues to thrive. It is a testament to the power of faith and community. The story of this parish is one of hardship resilience and unwavering belief. It is a story worth remembering. It is a story that continues to be written.
