Is it possible for a mural to whisper? The Gevriye Cavas Mural speaks volumes about a heartbreaking mystery. It also is a symbol of hope.

This mural stands as a poignant reminder. It marks the disappearance of five-year-old Gevriye Cavas. He vanished from a Brussels street in 1985.

Child Focus, a foundation dedicated to missing children, created this mural. It was unveiled for International Missing Children’s Day. The mural serves as a powerful image. It is a constant plea for information.

Imagine a sunny afternoon in February 1985. Gevriye Cavas leaves his family home. His goal was to find his older brother playing football nearby. He never returned. His disappearance is the oldest unsolved case in Belgium. The family believes he was kidnapped.

The Gevriye Cavas Mural is not just art. It represents a family’s enduring hope. It also shows the community’s commitment to finding answers. Child Focus hopes to create murals for every child on the Keep Hope Alive website. This includes Nathalie Geijsbregts, Ken Heyrman, and Liam Vanden Branden. The site also lists young adults missing since the 1980s.

Heidi De Pauw is the general manager of Child Focus. She stated that Child Focus relies on public support to spread information about missing children. She hopes for continued solidarity. This action means a lot to parents. Together, we never give up hope.

In 2022, Child Focus handled over 1,500 new cases of missing children. That is about four cases per day. Three-quarters involved children running away from home. Some unsolved cases, like Gevriye Cavas’s, are decades old.

Child Focus seeks walls of at least 130 square meters in high-traffic areas for future murals. This allows them to continue their mission. They want to keep the faces of missing children in the public eye.

The inauguration of the Gevriye Cavas Mural took place close to where he disappeared. He was only six years old when he vanished from Ransfortstraat in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek.

His sister, Eva Cavas, shared her feelings. Even after so many years, they still wonder where he is. They will never forget him. His brother, Zeki Cavas, added that his mother never stopped thinking about him. The family hopes the mural will spark a miracle. They hope someone will come forward with the truth.

The Gevriye Cavas Mural embodies a blend of sorrow and hope. It reminds us of the unsolved mysteries and the importance of community vigilance. It is a powerful symbol. It urges us to remember and never give up searching for the missing.
