Hidden amongst the peaks of Bukhansan National Park stands Geumseonsa Temple. A place of serenity and ancient history. Geumseonsa Temple boasts a history stretching back before 1405. King Jeungjo of the Joseon Dynasty once prayed here. He prayed for a male heir. Geumseonsa specializes in Seon meditation. The temple grounds are stunning. A beautiful stream flows beneath the Hongyae-gyo Bridge also known as the Nirvana Bridge. The natural beauty surrounding Geumseonsa is breathtaking.

Imagine yourself strolling along the path. The air is fresh. You can hear the gentle sounds of water. You pass Banyajeon Hall. Buddhist services are held here. A magnificent pine tree over two hundred years old stands proudly. Beyond it lies a staircase with 108 steps. These steps lead to Daejeokgwangjeon Hall. This is the temple’s main hall. To the right you’ll find Samseonggak House and the elegant Hongyegyo Bridge. Mitajeon Hall and Yeonhwadang Hall stand as testaments to more recent additions. Monk Beopan built them in 2004. Jeokmukdang Hall was constructed using traditional techniques.

Geumseonsa is more than just a temple. It’s a living testament to Korean Buddhist tradition. Legend speaks of Monk Nongsan who meditated here. He is said to have been reincarnated as King Sunjo. This adds to the mystical aura that surrounds Geumseonsa Temple. The temple offers various programs. These include a Relaxational Templestay and a Daily Templestay. These programs focus on meditation Buddhist ceremonies and traditional crafts. The temple is easily accessible but requires a short hike from the nearest bus stop. You can reach it by taking bus 7212 from Gyeongbokgung Palace Station or Gwanghwamun Station.
