Did you know that Seoul has a hidden gem called Geumok Girls’ High School? Right here, in the vibrant Sinsa-dong district, stands this institution. Geumok Girls’ High School has been shaping young minds since its establishment in 1981. It officially opened its doors to students on March 5th of that year, welcoming its first ten classes. The school wasn’t built overnight. Its story began a few years earlier, on April 29, 1978, with the establishment of the Geumok Educational Foundation. The founder, Bak Geumok, envisioned a place where girls could receive a quality education. The foundation laid the groundwork for the school we see today. Geumok Girls’ High School quickly became a part of the community. It transitioned from a private institution to a public one on January 20, 1982. The first graduating class, consisting of 611 students, celebrated their achievements on February 11, 1984. Geumok Girls’ High School has continued to evolve over the years. It embraced technology with the establishment of a computer lab in 2002. The school further demonstrated its commitment to progress by opening an art room in 2004. In 2019, the school celebrated a milestone with the inauguration of its 14th principal, Hong Kyung Pyo. Fast forward to February 8, 2022, the school marked its 39th graduation ceremony, with 215 graduates adding to the school’s impressive legacy of over 19,000 alumni. Today, Geumok Girls’ High School remains dedicated to providing a well-rounded education to young women, empowering them to become future leaders.
