A spark ignited in 1975. The Gethsemane House of Prayer Ministries was born. It began as Gethsemane Soul Saving Station. On a Monday, during an intercessory prayer meeting, one member was filled with the Holy Spirit. This divine experience ignited a fire in the small congregation. It confirmed they were following God’s will. The next Monday, the member’s husband also received the Holy Spirit. The Gethsemane House of Prayer Ministries’ first miracle involved their initial building on Merrick Blvd. The Lord instructed them to beautify His house. With only seven members, they prayed for God’s favor. Within ten days, they miraculously received $8,000. This allowed them to create a beautiful sanctuary where they worshipped for six years. Tragedy struck in 1981. A fire ravaged the church, destroying almost everything. Amidst the devastation, deacons from their headquarters church urged them to return to the mother church. But the Gethsemane House of Prayer Ministries had a charge to keep. They stood firm in their faith. God intervened and opened a new door, quite literally, in the next block. The following months brought a mix of supernatural blessings and natural challenges. They experienced power outages, flooding, and even eviction. Their landlord wanted them to buy the property instead of renting. However, they trusted in God’s promise of a larger land and refused. This led to a period of worshipping in homes, a challenging but faith-strengthening time. Their recovery began in 1983. God led them to Rosedale, a place they initially resisted due to racial tensions. However, this “large land” held their future. Another miracle unfolded during the closing on their current building. The agreed-upon price was reduced by $20,000. The owner, needing quick funds, lowered the price in exchange for a large down payment. They even agreed to hold the mortgage. For nine years, the congregation poured their hearts into beautifying God’s house, facing joys and sorrows. Finally, on February 15, 1992, they dedicated the new Gethsemane Soul Saving Station, now the Gethsemane House of Prayer Ministries. It stands as a testament to their unwavering faith and God’s miraculous provision.
