You might not expect to find two sisters in the middle of a busy street, but here they are. The Geschwister Sculpture, created by the artist Liz Mields-Kratochwil, stands in the Magistrale, the main street in Frankfurt (Oder). Two naked girls, forever youthful, forever frozen in time.

The sculpture was created around 1987, but it would be another three years before it was put on display. Both figures are life sized and were modeled after the artist’s daughter Anne-Kathrin, the taller of the two, and her friend Friederike. The two stand side by side, perhaps whispering secrets, or maybe pondering the world around them. They are a powerful and moving symbol of youth, innocence and the bond between sisters. Their nakedness is not meant to be provocative but rather to emphasize their vulnerability and emphasize their connection to each other.

The Geschwister Sculpture has become a popular landmark in Frankfurt (Oder) and a symbol of the city’s artistic spirit. It is a reminder that beauty can be found in the most unexpected places, even in the midst of a busy city street. And, as you stand here, you can almost hear their laughter, echoing through the years.
