What was once a YMCA on Greene Street later housed the Germantown Christian Assembly. The year was 1973. A dedicated group of 27 individuals came together forming the Germantown Christian Assembly. They started their journey at the YMCA after attending a gospel crusade at the Church of the Atonement. This crusade, led by Dr. B. Sam Hart of the Grand Old Gospel Fellowship, ignited a spark that would soon grow into a vibrant assembly. By 1974, the Germantown Christian Assembly had expanded significantly. They purchased a spacious house on East Mt. Pleasant Avenue to accommodate their growing congregation. However, the assembly’s rapid growth continued, and by mid-1975, even this house proved too small.
