The inscription on the tombstone tells a story. Georg Sick, Oberst A.D., a brave soldier in the Prussian Army, was awarded the highest military honor, the Pour le Mérite. Here, in this peaceful corner of the Neuer Friedhof in Potsdam, he rests. Georg Sick was a man of action, a leader who fought in some of the most brutal battles of the First World War. He earned his bravery and skill, leading his regiment through the horrors of the trenches. His name was even given to a regiment he commanded, a testament to his leadership during the war. He had a quiet place of rest for himself, where he could escape the demands of war, a vineyard house he referred to as “mein Weinberghäuschen”. This was his most prized possession, a place where he could relax and be “sans souci” without worries. But tragically, he died in 1937. Georg Sick rests here in Potsdam, surrounded by the beauty of the gardens he loved, a reminder that even warriors need peace.
