The General Organization for Social Insurance, or GOSI, plays a vital role in the Kingdom’s social safety net. Established in 1973, GOSI initially focused on Saudi nationals. As the economy grew and diversified, so did GOSI’s reach. Today, GOSI covers both Saudi and non-Saudi workers, providing crucial social protections. GOSI is overseen by a board of eleven directors. These directors represent government departments, employers, and insured persons, ensuring a balanced perspective. This structure highlights GOSI’s commitment to protecting the well-being of all workers contributing to Saudi Arabia’s prosperity. GOSI manages several key programs. For Saudi nationals, this includes retirement, disability, survivor, work injury, and unemployment benefits. For expatriates, GOSI primarily covers work injury insurance. Calculations for contributions differ. Saudi nationals contribute 9% of their gross salary, matched by their employer.
