Did you ever hear of an intelligence agency with its own combat brigades? Right here in Hanoi, stands the General Department of Defence Intelligence, or GDDI. It’s not just an office building. It’s the heart of Vietnam’s strategic military intelligence, the largest such body under the Vietnamese government. The GDDI, also known as General Department II, or TC2, was formed on October 25, 1945. Its main role? To gather intelligence and advise the Ministry of Defence and the General Chief of Staff. The GDDI helps shape the very structure and operations of the Vietnamese military. But here’s the intriguing part. The GDDI commands at least three combat brigades.
