Didn’t you know that Gemarkung Wolkersdorf is more than just a name on a map? It is a place steeped in history. Gemarkung Wolkersdorf is located in the district of Traunstein. It is a part of the large district town of Traunstein. The village is situated roughly three kilometers west-northwest of Traunstein’s center.

In the Middle Ages, Wolkersdorf was the seat of a main division. This division was part of the Oberchiemgau office of the Duchy of Bavaria. It included the villages of Wolkersdorf, Kotzing and Höpperding. Until 1803, the Domkapitel Salzburg owned the basic rights.

The rural community of Wolkersdorf was established in 1818. This happened with the Bavarian municipal edict. It included the villages of Geißing, Höpperding, Kotzing, Riederting, Schmidham, Traunstorf and Wolkersdorf. Historically, there were also the villages of Angerbauerhof and Gundersbichl. Guntramshügel and Unterhaid emerged in the second half of the 20th century.

Wolkersdorf was incorporated into Traunstein on May 1, 1978. In 1961, the municipality of Wolkersdorf had an area of 6.7 square kilometers. It had 1077 inhabitants. 162 of them lived in the village of Wolkersdorf. On December 31, 2015, 2488 people lived in the Gemarkung Wolkersdorf.

Let’s talk about the mayors of Wolkersdorf. Joseph Daxenberger from Schmidham held office from 1845 to 1850. Sebastian Huber from Wolkersdorf followed from 1850 to 1856. Mathias Steiner from Traunstorf was mayor from 1856 to 1875. Mathias Pöschl from Höpperding served from 1845 to 1887. Mathias Huber from Wolkersdorf again from 1887 to 1918. Max Neuhauser from Wolkersdorf was in office from 1919 to 1924. Josef Ortner from Wolkersdorf from 1925 to 1945. And Alois Kaiser from Traunstorf from 1946 to 1966. Ludwig Schwarzenböck from Traunstorf held the office from 1966 to 1978.

There were also other mayors in office. Georg Votz from Geißing from 1919 to 1924. Johann Kern from Traunstorf from 1925 to 1929. Alois Reischl from Schmidham from 1930 to 1933. Rupert Steiner from Traunstorf from 1933 to 1936. Georg Rosenegger from Traunstorf from 1936 to 1945. Georg Neuhauser from Wolkersdorf from 1946 to 1960. Herbert Petruschke from Traunstorf from 1960 to 1972. Otto Rammelsberger from Traunstorf from 1972 to 1978.
