How about we journey to a district named to honor a spiritual leader? Gautam Buddha Nagar awaits. This district in Uttar Pradesh shares a name with the founder of Buddhism. It is part of the Delhi National Capital Region.

Gautam Buddha Nagar was formed on June 9 1997. It was created from parts of Ghaziabad and Bulandshahr districts. The Mayawati government led this change. Dadri and Bisrakh were taken from Ghaziabad. Dankaur and Jewar came from Bulandshahr.

People here participated in the Indian independence movement. Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev and Chandra Shekhar Azad hid in Nalgadha village. This village is now in Sector 145, Noida. It is on the Noida Greater Noida Expressway. They planned the 1929 bomb attack on the Central Legislative Assembly from here. Today it is known as Parliament House.

The area has roots in the Ramayana. Bisrakh village in Greater Noida is believed to be Ravana’s father’s birthplace. His father was Vishrava Rishi. In the Mahabharata, Dankaur was Dronacharya’s ashram. Here, the Kauravas and Pandavas trained.

In 2011, the census recorded Gautam Buddha Nagar’s population. It was 1648115. It ranked 294th in India out of 640 districts. The population density is 1161 people per square kilometer. Impressively, female literacy stands at 72.78%. This exceeds the national average of 65.46%.

Hindi is the most spoken language here. About 92.96% of people speak it. Bengali is spoken by 1.29%. Urdu is spoken by 1.10%.

The district is managed by a District Magistrate. It is divided into three sub divisions. Each is led by a Sub Divisional Magistrate. The sub divisions are Sadar Noida, Dadri, and Jewar.

In 2020, Gautam Buddha Nagar became a Police Commissionerate. This was a first for Uttar Pradesh. Alok Singh was the first police commissioner.

Gautam Buddha Nagar has three assembly seats. These are Noida, Dadri, and Jewar. They fall under the Gautam Buddha Nagar Lok Sabha constituency.
