Gasthof Geyer is more than just a guesthouse. It’s a living testament to Bamberg’s brewing heritage. Its story stretches from the 15th century to the present day. A woman who brewed beer owned it in 1423. She paid taxes to the church.

The building’s numbers were 1017-1018 back then. It stood on a busy trade route. Hospitality and brewing were always central to the Gasthof Geyer.

In 1510 the Gasthof Geyer was known as the Brauhaus Zum Rösslein. Klaus Rösslein was the owner. He was a cooper a button maker and a brewer. Records show him as the owner from 1530.

The name changed to Zum weißen Rösslein in 1544. The Gasthof Geyer changed hands many times after 1565. It was sold for 530 guilders.

Between 1744 and 1805 the Gasthof Geyer took on its present form. The rear building was added then. Under Franz May from 1817 the Gasthof Geyer boomed. Beer was brewed on a large scale. Bamberg had 65 breweries at the time. The Gasthof Geyer was the tenth largest brewer in the city.
