“A goose girl? In the middle of the city?” you might ask yourself, looking at this bronze. This, my friends, is the Gänsemagd Sculpture. It’s a piece of Dusseldorf’s artistic heritage, more than a century old. The Gänsemagd, or Goose Maid, is the work of an unnamed modern sculptor from the 20th century. It’s a captivating study in bronze, capturing the simplicity and grace of a bygone era. The sculpture stands upon a round plinth. It’s a smaller piece, standing at 46cm tall. Look closely. You’ll notice a dark patina on the bronze. This speaks to its age, the passage of time leaving its mark on the artwork. This isn’t just any Gänsemagd. Look at the plinth, you’ll see an inscription and a number. This, my friends, is one of a limited edition, just 2 out of 50 ever made. It’s a rare and valuable piece of art, hidden in plain sight.
